Comala Document Control

We'd like it to be more flexible. Predefined workflows don't work, We'd like to be able to configure 1. Statuses we need 2. Expiration date 3. E-sign 4. Status destinations - i.e. auto-move to a configured parent. For publishing - multiple targets based on the label. In our case, we need Draft and Expiration, but it can't be configured.

I'm writing as a lead engineer of the largest IVD medical diagnostics company in Australia. This is my second review of the application and my first is included below, written 2 months ago. Over the last two months, Comalatech's response has been exceptional to feedback, bug reports, communication in general, and their rate of developing the platform. Some of my earlier complaints have been handled elegantly and I now recommend this application. • It easily exceeds the capabilities of similar applications available for Confluence Cloud, at least for our purposes of document control. • Records are accessible and traceable (pleasing regulators), and the interface is effective and intuitive (pleasing staff and developers). • The customer support is very responsive and helpful. Any problems we've experienced were resolved in just a few days, even if that meant a slight alteration to a system. However, there are still concerns over excessive permissions for page editors and limited configurations for workflows. There also seems to be a repeated issue of distributing slightly buggy version updates. Once those are overcome, I will happily give this application 4 stars. --- I'm writing as a lead engineer of the largest IVD medical diagnostics company in Australia. Comala Document Control is a somewhat powerful application and is providing us the means to improve our regulatory compliance procedures. Editors can assign people to reviews, authorities can delegate their reviews, and so forth. However, there are numerous faults with the application, and these can be summed up quite easily. 1. This application give way too much control to those with page-editing permissions. If you can edit a page, you have the means to change reviewing authorities as you please, and the admin needs to jump through hoops to control the simplest of things. This incurs a weakness of process control and allows people to just click buttons and invalidly speed up their processes. 2. The application is thoroughly unpolished. I can only speculate as to why. Some buttons are broken, two of them can unintentionally overwrite your entire QMS record, and others do things the average user just wouldn't expect. 3. There is so little control given to the admin for workflow construction. There are only two buttons for every review stage; "Approve" or "Reject", and only a few over-generalised conditions that apply to each. Furthermore, these are regulatory terms and should be able to be changed as we need it. 4. The customer service isn't totally useless, but it's not any good either. It's taken them more than a week to reply to simple questions. Considering the free trial is just 1 month, they're probably losing business on their unresponsiveness. Add in better admin controls, better configurations, and polish this system. Then I'll happily give it 4 stars. But for now, it barely suits our regulatory needs.

For a few months it's now possible to adapt the workflows (e.g. adding steps, renaming buttons etc). Since that change it's a pretty useful tool for regulatory (medical devices in Europe - MDD/MDR) purposes. It's not bug free, a public bug list may be useful. But things improve continuously. Happy to recommend it.

CDC allowed us to move from a paper based document approval process, to one that's fully online. This saves us time, we're no longer circulating paper documents for approval, enabling multiple reviewers to access documents simultaneously. As a medical device company ensuring documentation is accurate and fully approved then available for review and audit is key. CDC has enabled us to achieve all those goals, faster and more accurately than before. We're a small team that self manages a cloud instance, and the support provided by Comala has been great, including live sessions where needed to overcome issues related to migrating from beta version of the plugin.
